Ditched Ubuntu, back to Vista…

Well, I spent about two or three hours playin with Ubuntu Linux (Gutsy Gibbon) and off it came… back on with Vista Ultimate - which I’ve also installed to my system at work! (Well, Vista Enterprise ;))

On the Xbox front not a lot has changed… I am still playing Gears of War most weeknights and some Project Gotham Racing 4 at the weekends - not gained any new achivements.

And lastly the car… my coilovers, new wheels and bushes still sit looking pretty waiting to be fitted, hopefully that will be done on Saturdau 10/11.

It’s been a while

Looks like I nearly forgot I had this blog… will get back into it now - had a busy few weeks.

As per the last post I ditched Halo 3 for my Xbox 360 and got Project Gotham Racing 4 on the day of release.. I’ve been enjoying that - if you see my 360 Voice page you’ll see ;)

Also… got some coilovers for the car and have new bushes on the way, Ibiza Cupra PD160 bushes to be precise! So with my new coilovers, bushes and wheels I think I’ll be a lot happier with the car - I have been on the verge of selling to be honest.

And also on the computing front!  I’ve been playing around a bit with Ubuntu… it’s been a while since I’ve felt like a “n00b” with computers - I’ll be updating more on that soon :)

Halo 3 For Sale

Being a big fan of Gears of War since I bought my Xbox 360 back in January… I though’t I’d join the crowd and get Halo 3 along with everyone else so I bought it on the day of release.

And since purchasing I’ve been quite dissapointed to say the least… not a fan at all. Turn’s out I’m not alone… my girlfriends brother feels the same way… so I have two copies to sell.

I’m selling them at £30 each… too much? Make me an offer…

Let the joke’s begin…

OK - As the blog is starting to get quite a few hits now… I’m going to add some jokes from time-to-time, I think as this progress I’ll start posting up once a day.

Today’s joke, is of a mild nature!

One day when the teacher walked to the black board, she noticed someone had written the word ‘penis’ in tiny small letters. She turned around, scanned the class looking for the guilty face. Finding none, she quickly erased it and began her class.

The next day she went into the room and she saw, in larger letters, the word ‘penis’ again on the black board. Again, she looked around in vain for the culprit, but found none, so she proceeded with the day’s lesson.

Every morning, for about a week, she went into the classroom and found the same word written on the board, each day’s word larger than the previous day’s word.

Finally, one day she walked in, expecting to be greeted by the same word on the board, but instead, found the words:

“The more you rub it, the bigger it gets!”

Animated wallpapers, Vista Dreamscene is here

Ah, this is possibly the worst memory hogger on a system ever - but word on the street is that it’s cool, do you think it’s cool?

So your likely thinking, what is he going on about? Basically, Windows Vista (Home Premium & Ultimate editions) have a feature called “Dreamscene” and what this actually is, is a video file which is the size of your desktop which loops round and round… basically it is an animated wallpaper.

The amount of memory used for this is incredible, and rather than boasting about how cool this is - I’m taking the opposite route and thinking how stupid this is!

What I’m thinking, is actually how often do you actually look at your wallpaper - then think long and hard, is it worth wasting your system resources over?

Check the video above, thats one I made… my system actually locked up whilst it was running - yeah, it’s amazing!

New wheels for the Ibiza

As promised in my last post, here is an image of the new wheels I got for my car.  They have came off a new Ibiza Sport, 16″ in size (The same as my current wheels)!

I won’t be fitting these straight away though - I’m going to order up some coilover suspension and sort out the ride height of my car, will stick the new wheels on at the same time - will be a nice little change for the car I think.

eBay can be very strict

Covering two categories for the first time with this post today.

Got an email from eBay a couple of days ago, remember my post on the 24th September?  I was selling an iPod Nano and eBay pulled it off auction because I said I left music on it and didn’t comment on what music it was, and… wait for it… was it copyrighted; jeez!  I know rules have to be followed but honestly - when I bought the thing the auction said it had nude photos on it and did that get pulled, no!

So!  Also whilst on the subject of eBay I also picked up a bargain - I got some new wheels for the car, my current wheels could be doing with a bit of a refurb to say the least, and I need new tyres so I killed two birds with one stone and got a set of brand new alloys in 16″ with brand new Dunlop Sport tyres… get in!

Images to follow, don’t worry - maybe tomorrow… I’m also going to fit a set of coilovers to the car, so I can customize the ride height to exactly the way I want it :)

Unpimp your auto…

Just a little entry to keep things flowin.  Those who know me will understand I’m quite the fan and in great favour of VAG cars (VW/Seat/Audi and Skoda) I’ve owned two VW’s before and have also owned three Seat cars.

Anyways, this post… below is an advert that Volkswagen should have used officially - I deteste these chavved up cars with loaf-sized engines and tin-can sized exhausts so yeah - the advert below is nothing new, it’s been kicking about for a while but still rules :)

Have a look round YouTube there are a lot more kicking around :)

Live messenger issues with Vista

It seems a number of people running Vista are having issues getting signed into Live/MSN Messenger for the first time - even with a clean install it still won’t work - when other systems on the same network which run Windows XP do.  If you have this problem, and you receive the error code “81000306″ then read on.

Basically this is an issue with Vista, and there is a very simple fix for it - I’ve detailled the fix below, before going ahead with the fix ensure you are logged in as the Administrator.

Hold the Windows key and press ‘R’ - this launces the “Run” window.
Type in “cmd” (Without comma’s) then click OK - This launches DOS Prompt.
Type in “netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled” (Without comma’s).
Reboot your PC system, and try signing in again.

In theory this should fix your issue - if it does, or does not I’d like you to feed back to me and let me know.  It worked for me and a number of my friends.

Now… I’m going back to Halo 3 - I will be back soon ;)
